Olivier Weiter and the art of hypnotic underground house

My greatest inspiration in underground house is not about one track or one drop. It is about creating a state in which the crowd becomes one with the music.

I have met Olivier Weiter many times over the years. This photo was taken at a Bevrijdingsdag festival in 2023, but his influence on me reaches far beyond one event.

When it comes to underground house, Olivier is my greatest musical inspiration.

What fascinates me is his ability to move beyond the normal relationship between a DJ and a crowd. At his best, the room stops feeling like separate people listening to separate tracks. The crowd, the music and the moment begin to feel like one thing.

He creates a nearly hypnotic emotional flow: patient, deep and completely absorbing. The result is not only excitement. It is a sustained feeling of release and happiness that can be far more powerful than a single spectacular drop.

The real art is not making people react for a moment. It is guiding them into a state they do not want to leave.

That idea has strongly influenced how I think about my own Melodic House sets. I want to build connection over time, protect the emotional arc and create the feeling that everyone on the floor is travelling through the same story together.

For me, this is the highest level of DJing: not simply playing music to a crowd, but using music to turn many individual people into one shared experience.
